A Conservation Biologist Looks To Save The Polar BearsA Conservation Biologist works to save animals, plants and their habitat from extinction. They study the ecosystem and how to repopulate or save specific species. Some conservation biologists work to ensure biodiversity on the earth. Biodiversity is the interaction of all species that exist on our earth. How the smallest of organism can affect the existence of even our wildlife. How our farming can affect the many creatures that live in our waters. Our forests are an example of biodiversity. In order for all species on our planet to continue to grow and exist we need biodiversity. The existence of humans is dependent on the maintenance of the Earth's plant and animal health. A conservation biologist could very well be one of the groups of people that protect the future of our planet. One of the animals that face extinction is the polar bear. The polar bear is losing its habitat. Global warming is melting the ice caps. These pieces of ice are necessary in order for the polar bear to hunt for food. So the polar bears end up on land as the ice melts and they go without food. The ice now forms later in the year and melts sooner. If this continues the polar bears will become so thin that they will not be able to reproduce hence will come extinction by the end of the century. All of the earth is experiencing the disasters that global warming is creating but the Arctic more so than any other place in the world. The entire ecosystem in the Arctic is in jeopardy. Temperatures are rising at a faster rate than anywhere else in the world. The lighter the surface the better light reflects away from the earth. The darker the surface the more of the sun's rays are absorbed by the earth's surface. So because so much of the ice is melting there are more dark surfaces which overall increases the rate of global warming. In order to save the polar bears we have to decrease the rate of global warming. Anything that affects our atmosphere directly effects the survival of the polar bears. The more heat that radiates from the sun melts more of the ice and the temperature of the water warms. This in turn changes our overall climate. Even the smallest step to live a greener life is a step in the right direction. If saving our wildlife were of interest to you then Conservation Biology would be a good career choice for you. As a conservation biologist you have to have education in sciences, a B.S. There is also the option of advancing to a graduate degree that will in turn get you higher paying jobs in both the private and public sector. Examples of jobs are in forestry, water conservation, biology and teaching. Conservation biologists usually work for government agencies or nonprofit organizations. They work to teach the public about the importance of protecting against the extinction of some of our most valuable resources…our wildlife.
