Green Careers Guide

Battery Changing Station

The world is changing, including the way we travel from. There may come a time when everyone will be driving hybrid vehicles rather than ones that use gas, fast becoming a precious resource. In the future, we will buy the hybrid of our choice and lease the battery that keeps them running. When the energy gets low, we will drive to the neighborhood battery changing station and in a few minutes, we will have the old one pulled out and a new battery put in. As more and more hybrid cars are on the road, the need for more of these battery changing stations will continue to grow.

What skills are necessary?

General automotive skills and interest should suffice for this career choice, although being well versed in green technology and the theories behind the green car choices is useful as well. If you can change a regular acid based battery now, you can change the lithium-ion batteries used in the typical hybrid vehicle.

What is the target audience?

The target audience is those who currently drive a hybrid as well as those who are contemplating making the change in the near future. Instead of constantly trying to remember to plug in and charge your battery, you would drive your car with the battery to the changing station and change the battery in a few minutes.

Where can you start this business?

There are several places that would benefit from having a battery changing station. All places would need to be centrally located to serve the largest number of people and should be easily accessible and spotted from the main highway. Any business that is attracting people on a regular basis would be a mutually beneficial spot to consider as well.

What is the market size and potential?

The more hybrid cars that find themselves on the road in the coming years, the more this will become a necessary career choice. Growth potential is virtually limitless as more people take advantage of the hybrid car for their transportation needs.

What types of license and registration do I need?

Typical licensing needs would include the same as for any automotive type of establishment as well as certification in handling hazardous materials, i.e. the batteries and anything else specific to the location. Ever county and city have their own codes to enforce but always check before starting any type of business.

What are the risks?

This business is virtually risk free unless there are few hybrid cars in your locale. Do your market research, before you open your doors and you will have minimized the risk greatly.
