Building a Green Career in Mass Transit

Mass transit is something that is available in most if not all developed towns and cities around the world. One of the key ways that we can conserve the environment is to use mass transit systems. As a result, building a green career in mass transit is something that people may be interested in.

There are 3 potential careers in mass transit that may suit your tastes:

Bus System Operator

As the price of fuel skyrockets, more people around the world are riding the bus to school, work, shops, and entertainment areas. This means that there is a high demand for bus operators, and that transport companies are hiring more bus drivers to take on more routes or create more frequent bus schedules.

To become a bus driver, you need a valid driver's license. Depending on the driving rules of where you live, they may also require another license to drive a bus. Training is done on the job and conducted by the employer.

Train System Operator

There are many people employed within the train system. Depending on what function you are employed in, this may involve checking the trains' condition or driving the train. To become a train system operator, you must be mentally alert, have good communication skills, good eyesight, hand-eye coordinator, and a mechanical aptitude. Training to become a train driver is done on the job and conducted by the employer.

Taxi Driving Business

Using a green taxi or limousine service is something that is unique. There are many 'green vehicles' manufactured that taxi drivers and chauffeurs can use. In order to have a taxi driving business, you must get a certificate from the city you want to work in to provide this service. You and your employees with need a commercial driver's license in order to drive taxis and limousines.

To become a taxi driving business owner, you need to have some business acumen. Customer service and excellent communication skills are also imperative. You and your employees should also know the city you live in well or at least have a GPS that is often updated to ferry passengers to their destination.

The cost of starting a taxi driving business is rather costly, when you take into consideration the cost of the vehicles, fuel, salary, insurance, and other costs. However, the demand of taxis in major cities is high so there may be a demand of your services from those who are environmentally conscious.
