Corporate Green Trainer/Coordinator

Many businesses are looking to go green. They need to retrain their entire organization which will require hiring a professional trainer who can plan, coordinate and implement all of the training for the company, making sure that all departments are included the training process. For some, smaller companies, it might make sense to have a single training day, with small groups rotating in for sessions, leaving others to continue working. For bigger companies, the training may have to take place over several days. Coordinating training for companies that have many small locations throughout the area would be another responsibility for the corporate trainer.

What skills would I need for this profession?

A high level of professionalism is necessary as is the knowledge of green/corporate practices. The ability to organize and coordinate these training sessions for different sized groups is also very important. Finally, the ability to speak calmly in front of fairly large groups is also a skill you will need to have.

What educational background should I have?

A degree in business, psychology, sociology or public speaking should be seriously considered. In some cases however, a corporate trainer is one who has started in a lower level position and worked his or her way up through the corporate ladder, learning new skills and job duties along the way.

What is the target market?

The target market is all businesses and corporations that would benefit from increasing their green practices and policies. Retraining the employees to make better use of recycling programs, for example, is a beginning. There should be some motivations offered for following the new policies and it should be known that after an initial training period has been completed, a new, no-tolerance policy will go into effect.

Who is the competition?

There will be others who offer the same types of services, as well as those companies that will train an employee to train the others. Your service must be highly recommended, excellent in the delivery of service and deliver positive results. Being able to show that after a training session, green compliance met certain requirements can do much to improve the reputation of your company.

What are the risks?

There are no risk free ventures. You should know that in areas where a corporation has financial difficulties, it may not be as interested in retraining staff on green concepts as it is in helping employees keep their jobs. Some companies will believe themselves to be as green as they could be already and will not be interested in a consultation of any kind. However, there is a lot of work to be done and there are many companies who will want to bring their company into the green future.
