The career outlook for a Ecotourism/hospitality is good. They make on average $25-$35 thousand a year.

Before considering a career in ecotourism, it may be best to understand what it is. While there are many different working definitions, it basically can be surmised as a tour guide that is eco conscious. Going on trips or setting up trips that are sensitive to the cultures or plant life surrounding them. There are ultimately two different parts of ecotourism. The first is setting up the trips, and the second would be to lead the trip. The two parts may or may not be the same person.

Training for ecotourism can vary greatly depending on where you are. The International Ecotourism Society provides training for individuals who want to become have an "Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Development" within their major. This added specialization can add a vital green aspect to your degree, and possibly an edge in the business world. Also Sustainable Travel International offer training for businesses and government already in the travel industry. Less than 30 Universities in the United States offer Ecotourism degrees.

There is another important aspect to keep in mind when dealing with ecotourism. The second aspect of setting up the great eco tours is being a certified travel agent. You must get certified in order to do so. There are many places available to this. Being certified in tourism and ecotourism should make a force to be reckoned with.

One really has there choice on how to get trained in this field. Where to do with the degree is a whole other issue. There are countless number of places worldwide that are looking for people to lead groups. The degree can also be used to enter into a whole field of teaching, whether at school or at a zoo. The field is wide open, and should be able to take you anywhere within the world, if you are willing to go there. If traveling is not your thing, than consider adding the knowledge to a travel agency. It can give you a leg up on an expanding field.
