Energy Commission Specialist

An Energy Commission Specialist is involved with balancing the distribution of resources and environmental safety. This position requires the assessment of resource trends, such as the usage of electricity and natural gas.

The career outlook for an energy commission specialist is good. They make on average $27-$50 thousand a year.

These assessments are given to the public and decision makers who can use the information to make better choices when it comes to using available resources and protecting the environment and public health.

Energy Specialists are also involved in making decisions regarding alternative energy such as solar power. They have to weigh the potential of using more eco-friendly, renewable power sources. They also have to work with others to decide where to put something like solar power generators.

An Energy Commission Specialist will work under an Energy Commission Supervisor, and will have the responsibility of collecting data about short-term load forecasts. Specialists also work with Public Utilities and Load Serving Entities among other groups. This helps to create annual forecasts of resource needs and adjustments.

If you want to be an Energy Commission Specialist, you will need to be able to prepare written and oral presentations of analyses and forecasts. You will also have to be willing to represent the Energy Commission you work for at workshops and meetings. These activities require excellent people skills and the ability to communicate well.

You must be knowledgeable in many different types of energy creation. You have to be well versed in your local power production plant types, and also in new forms of energy production, such as solar power, wind turbines, and others.

You may be required to travel in this position in order to be available to represent the Commission, and you must be comfortable being regarded as an expert on the subject of resource forecasts and usage.
