Engineering Green Gadgets

In the time we live in, green gadgets are sweeping the world as the items du jour. One of the more popular gadgets that is more mainstream these days is the CFL light bulb, which claims to reduce energy bills and burn longer than a traditional light bulb. Some of the items that are engineered, like the CFL light bulb, are simply greener solutions to things we do everyday. So who exactly is in charge of engineering these gadgets and who are the brains behind them?

For example, solar powered keyboards. Instead of regular electronic keyboards, Logitec, a leader in the electronics industry, has engineered a solar powered keyboard that works off, what else, solar power. Solar powered gadgets are engineered for many reasons, mostly to make people's lives easier and greener. Things such as solar chargers for people who hike, especially the water-proof ones, like the ones made by Voltiac Fuse Solar Charger, are some of the great green products that have been engineered in the last year.

Because the "Greening of the world" is relatively new, brilliant heads are put together to come up with these gadgets to be engineered. It may be the spark of an idea from a worker at a company or an individual working on a patent somewhere out in the world. Someone, somewhere, comes up with the initial idea. The next process is getting a team to work on them The solar powered projects of the keyboard and battery chargers involve the use of engineers, electricians, and computer experts to get the product off the ground and tested. Then the final products can be taken to a test panel or test group to get opinions for improvements on the products. The entire process takes multiple workers in different areas to ensure the green product is a valid, useable, green, and cost effective product to be put on the market for consumers.

Companies are beginning to recycle materials to engineer green gadgets, such as computer companies. Some electronics gadgets are made from recycled plastics or recycled pieces of old computers. Companies such as Avio are one that manufactures a computer made from recycled plastics. These types of projects employ hundreds of employees who make the different parts of the project, computer IT workers to get it all up and running, and panels to test the final product for user feedback.

Because some of the materials in gadgets are toxic if released into the environment, companies are making newer products that are more recyclable. Because older electronic gadgets, such as televisions and microwaves, can be dangerous to our environment, newer ones are being engineered every day to make dumping and recycling more feasible for the public at large. Cellular phones are being engineered to be more environmentally friendly because most people take advantage of the upgrade option their carriers offer. Cellular phones are gadgets that are made to be used for several years, however, people just don't use them for the amount of time they could or should. Again, these green gadgets utilize the same types of workers as computer companies and other engineers of green gadgets to create jobs for those interested.

Not all green gadgets are electronic, which creates jobs in other sectors for people all over the world. Companies use employees to make recycled goods from papers, plastics, inks, and other things that would normally end up in the landfills into useful items for the home and office.

Overall, "green collar jobs" are available in all industries and encompass all aspects of products, from selling, reviewing, recycling materials, think tanks, and putting the item together. Companies need attorneys to protect them in the event the green products do not work in the public as planned or something goes wrong. Accountants for analysis of costs and balance sheets, doctors and nurses for on site clinics when dealing with these new products…so as you can see, jobs with green gadgets are all-encompassing and can overlap into more industries than just the obvious.
