Environmental Health Specialists: Ensuring a Healthy Environment for Everyone

Environmental health specialists are very special people. They work around the clock to ensure that the community is free and safe from elements, substances, and diseases that could endanger the welfare of human life. They work endlessly to ensure that problems which are related to public environmental issues are resolved without conflict of interest for everyone involved. They take a systematic and natural approach in addressing issues which may pose a threat to the environment as a whole. If there is a question of health and safety concerns they take the necessary steps and conduct an onsite investigation.

They are required to monitor nursing homes, hospitals, and other places that cater to the needs of the public at large. They must maintain a high level of proficiency as they go through the various process of problem solving. This is a career that everyone is not suited for. Individuals who work in this field must be organized, as the job requires writing reports and case plans for lots of businesses. Businesses that have failed health and safety inspections will undoubtedly be placed on some type of operating restriction. They may also receive a citation or an order to remedy a situation. They may also be asked to agree to set terms and conditions that are set up by environmental health specialist.

Whatever course of action is implemented the environmental specialist is required to complete step by step documentation. They are required to note all if any problems, state whether or not a place of business has complied with the terms of agreement, and issue a certificate of satisfaction, or a citation to close down. Safety is their main concern and the specialist is there to help anyone who is in need of their services. In some cases they may answer calls from the general public, and especially if there has been an epidemic break of a contagious sickness or disease.

If the environmental specialist receives a public or private complaint it is their job to investigate the matter to determine whether or not the complaint is justifiable. If there is probable cause they will look farther into the complaint. The complaint can be anything that is related to health, safety, and environmental issues. If the investigation concludes that the findings were unwarranted then the environmental health specialists will notate the case before closing it. Being part of a green job work place makes the difference between living in the earth and caring for it. This is a very demanding job that many people do not feel they can do. The specialist must be an outdoor person. This is because the majority of their job will be spent in the field.
