Environmental Officers; Caring For Our Earth

Environmental Officers have the job of taking care of our Earth. They provide top-notch advice to other organizations, people and government. They work together to conserve our natural resources. People and industry have drastic and long-term effects on the environment by things they do in their everyday lives.

These can include farmers and the way they care for their crops and industry creating air pollution. Environmental Officers offer solutions and systems that can be used to reduce the effect that these situations have on our environment. They work with people to help them find ways to be eco friendly in their homes and how they can impact our environment in a positive by changes they can make in their lives.

Industry can have a strong impact in a harmful way on our environment. Environmental Officers work with businesses to teach them practices that will positively impact our ecosystem rather than harm it while still meeting their needs.

As long as the demand for changes in our society is required there will be an ever-growing demand for Environmental Officers. There are a wide variety of job areas that you can follow. You can develop educational programs and deal with breaches of our environmental codes and bylaws. You can also create codes and guidelines that are required especially for businesses. Pollution is a major problem and as an Environmental Officer you can identify what the sources are and find out what problems are being caused and what can be initiated to find alternatives.

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is a problem for society as a whole. Government and industry are always looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint (which is the ration between how much carbon you are producing and how much you are counteracting). As an Officer you can provide them with plans to reduce these emissions. You can help to reduce the destruction of our forests by developing proposals that can be given to government and industry as to how to reduce land use.

In order to work in this industry you should have a background in agricultural science (knowing how land is used), earth science, math (algebra and calculus), chemistry (composition of minerals and gases), economics and biology (the interaction between animals and plants and their ecosystem). You will be required to have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Environmental Management or a Bachelor of Environmental Sciences.

The benefits of being an Environmental Officer are numerous. You get a chance to directly have a positive effect on the environment. You can make changes that will have both an immediate and long tem effect. An Environmental Officer has the power to make government and business stand up and listen. The job may require a lot of research and work but the rewards are many. If you are environmentally conscious and want to work to save our planet then this is definitely a job for you.
