"Fall" into these Jobs

It is almost October and the weather has quickly turned from the hot summer days into, well, fall. The leaves will soon turn colors and get ready for winter. Fresh apples will be at our local orchards, and there will be jobs that are unique for the season. The economy is not quite what it used to be, but there are still jobs available in the right fields. Nearly all sectors of the job fields have taken a hit, and green jobs are no exception. If you are one of the nations unemployed, try jumping into these.

HVAC Engineer: Recently the Department of Energy announced another $20 million of spending on geothermal plants. This is on top of the many millions already spent. The great thing about the money being spent is that it opens the door with people who may have been adversely affected by the downturn in the economy to find a job. Geothermal plants will be looking for engineers and HVAC specialists. HVAC engineers make an average of $15-$20 an hour.

A quick tip is to read the news and pay attention as to where money is being spent. It will be a good indication of the sectors where jobs may be available.

Landscaper: The great thing about the fall season is that there are tons of leaves on the ground. With this abundance, there are a lot of needs for someone with a strong rake and time. It may be the perfect time to start your very own business. With enough lawns, you could be supplementing your income quite well. If you are really good, you may be able to pull in anywhere from $2000- $5000 for the season.

Window Technician: Many houses feel the full effect of bad or leaky windows when the weather drops below 70 degrees. As people start to test how well their heaters work, they realize that it may be time to replace those old windows. Window technicians should be in high demand, as there are still tax credits available for home owners. The average installer makes around $30 thousand a year.

Pest Control Technician: No one likes them but this time of year, the pests tend to move towards warmer climates. Most of the time that means you will see an influx of spiders, bugs and the occasional rodents. While it may be bad for the home owner, it could mean an opportunity to step into this career. Technicians provide analysis of people's homes and fix any issues that they may have. Pest control technician make an average of $27 to $40 thousand a year.

Ecotourism Specialist: Even though the economy is tough, people still need the opportunity to go on vacation. If that means a shorter trip, closer trip, or less expensive trip, it still means money in your pocket. An ecotourism specialist helps guide people at finding great trips that are fun and eco friendly. With everyone watching their pennies people need someone who will look after their money and their green consciousness. Specialists make around $25- $35 thousand a year.

These five jobs are open to candidates looking for a green career. Take some time and apply. You never know when or where your job search may take you. It my even take you into a Green Career.
