Fashion Accessory Rental Shop

Unless you are notorious for giving amazing wedding gifts or you have a lot of really fancy friends, there are not a lot of events that you will be attending where fancy fashion accessories are necessary. Buying and owning these items is a waste of money and a waste of space. It is cheaper and easier to rent these items as the need arises rather than trying to make room for more items in your closet that you will only need once if at all.

What skills are necessary?

The ability to find bargains on the accessories that you will be renting out will be one of the main skills that you will need. Organizational skills are also important so that you can keep track of inventory coming in and going out at all times.

What does it take to open your door?

To get started, a site or small shop is necessary. There should be enough room to allow for backroom storage as well as shelves and other types of displays for all of the items. Really expensive items should be kept in glass cases for protection.

A supply of basic accessories is also necessary. Adding more accessories as your business grows can allow you to lessen the amount you need to start.

Who is the target audience?

Anyone who will be attending an event that might require different accessories than they have on hand, eliminating the need for them to go out and buy these things for one night.

How is it green?

Rampant consumerism is harmful not only to the planet but to the consumer's individual budget. Saving money is one of the major benefits, but the planet will benefit as well. The reduced need will mean there will one less item that must be made in a factory. The item will then be returned and used by someone else instead of sitting in a closet or, worse, ending up in a landfill because someone grew tired of having it.

Identify the Risks

A slower economy may mean far less need for fancy dress and fashion accessories. There may be some items that come back soiled or damaged beyond repair. It may be more expensive to get the items that will rent the fastest meaning a small or non-existent profit margin.

Who are the competitors?

Competition to this concept would come in the form of thrift shops, tag sales and trusting friends. There will still be those people who will go out and buy these items, even if they know they will never need them again. And, there are those people who will buy an item, use it and then return it to the store.
