Do you love working outside? How would like to join the green world by becoming a forester. This profession is not a new one, in fact in the United States it has been around for over 200 years.

The career outlook for a forester is okay. They make on average $45-$65 thousand a year.

Foresters are basically biologists who have a specialization in forests. People who get their degree in forestry have many options available to them. They will deal mostly with ranchers, loggers and the public. Forestry can be very physically demanding.

There are different areas that can attract foresters. If you like the idea of working in private industry than industrial forestry may be good. Consider consulting forestry if you are good at analyzation. Both state and federal governments are always looking for people to work in the forestry service. Many times a forestry degree will take you far from forests in the ecosystems and wetlands.

While you are on your path towards becoming a forester, make sure to join the National Association of Foresters. This will help you join up with others in your field. It may also help you understand what direction of forestry you would like to explore.

You will need to get a four year degree from a university has a back ground in offering these type of specialized degrees. Make sure that you will be able to not only be able keep up physically with the job, but you science skills are up to par. A Biology degree is a very science intensive degree.
