A career as a geographic information systems specialist-GIS, can be rewarding. In order to get a job as a GIS you will not necessarily be limited as to what degree you should have. A Bachelor of Science Degree, emphasizing on Geography is the best degree for the job. Other recommended areas of study include political science, business, economics, sociology, or any other area that the analyzing of data is emphasized. This is important especially if you are in the process of switching over to a new field. If you are a detail oriented person, this field may be great for you. A bachelors degree can cost anywhere from $5 to $20 thousand a year.
