Green Careers Guide

"Got Job?"

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate was hovering around 10% in December, 2010. USA Today stated on 12/28/10 that "So many Americans have been jobless for so long that the government is changing how it records long-term unemployment."

Many people are glad to see 2010 over, and are hoping that 2011 will be more promising. Americans are frustrated, scared, and many feel helpless. With so few jobs to be had, and the competition being so fierce, some have decided to think outside the box, and to take matters into their own hands. Might you be ready to create your own future?

Are you unemployed? Are you thinking of starting your own business? Do you know where to look or what to look for?. Might a green business be a good fit for you?

Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, calls network marketing "The Business of the 21st Century". In fact, Kiyosaki wrote a book with that title. After carefully researching the industry, he found that network marketing can allow people to take control of their future, and build wealth. Kiyosaki does caution one to choose carefully.

So, what should one look for when evaluating a home based business? What are you selling and who would buy it? Looking at the demand, price point, supply, uniqueness, quality and recession proof nature of the product/service is important. How much is it going to cost you to get started? Know the guarantees and on-going expenses for maintaining your business. Which business model is being used? What is the likelihood of repeat sales from your customers and how is your business interest protected? Understand the compensation plan! Compensation items to look for could be residual income, commissions, bonuses, profit sharing, mentoring bonuses, & retention. Avoid breakaways, decreased commission structures, unlimited front-lines, "get-in now" or "fake it 'til you make it" type plans. Look for a company with proven success. Growth during times like these is a plus! Investigate their credit rating, associations, awards and recognitions achieved. The green industry is very popular, and the right business can provide a very lucrative income.

The reasons for starting a home-based business should be more than a liking to the products and the nice person that recruited you. Those are the reasons for joining a club- not starting a business. Do your homework with your business acumen in full gear, and do not let your emotions completely influence the decision making process. A home-based business can be incredibly rewarding. Doing your own fact finding up-front can put you on the road to financial freedom.
