Green Jobs: There's Room for Newcomers

In recent years the surge in green jobs is not a coincidence. The impacts of energy efficiency have raised new awareness about the environment and have ignited a new movement to change the way that we are treating our planet. Green is a lot of different things like sustainability, converting waste into energy, energy and fuel conservation, the planting of trees, and wind and solar energy consumption. There's much more, but these are just examples of how green is becoming not just another fad or conversation topic. It is quickly becoming something that is part of our everyday lives.

With all the new standards and procedures that companies are being required to follow. Green jobs are becoming essential. And with the jobs comes a necessity to train these people to be able to do the jobs correctly and to the best of their ability. Large and small companies are also setting aside lots and lots of funding to find the most efficient ways to turn or remain green. The government is also issuing out a number of grants to commercial and small businesses that provide environmental saving programs. One of these programs called," The Property Assessed Clean Energy program" is doing just that. It gives business owners tax incentives to build energy efficient buildings and use energy efficient materials and supplies.

"The Recovery and Reinvestment Act" is enabling the government finance training for potential green employees who want to invest in a green future. Even though this funding is available, only one percent of Americans are choosing to explore a career in the field. One initiative being explored is to recruit the jobless population in the urban areas to help fill the empty green positions. If you carefully look around you will start to see green energy training centers starting to pop up here and there. These centers were created to train green-collar workers on how to retrofit buildings with green technology. Another example of the surge in green jobs is happening in San Jose, Ca where there has been a surge in unemployed workers taking classes that offer training in green related careers. So where is the money for these programs coming from? It's coming from federal stimulus money and the recovery and reinvestment act money.

As the need for green-collar jobs increase people looking to get into the green field need to be prepared to take the necessary steps to be ready when they get the call. Applying for these green jobs is basically the same as getting any other job, one needs to follow the steps by focusing on desired area, networking, and meeting connections in person and not just settling for email. The jobs are there, the industry just needs the skilled personnel to fill the vacancies.
