Green Careers Guide

Green Tech Village

Tech people tend to congregate together in groups. Working together can allow them to bounce ideas off one another, pointing out weaknesses or possible flaws in each other's ideas. In some tech villages, the gathered people are working individually, possibly sending emails or text message when they need to communicate. Everybody has his or her own computer, printer and other office equipment. In the green tech village, actions and events are done a little differently.

What does it take to make a green village?

Sharing is the first concept that should be considered. Look at the time spent on every computer. If ten people are constantly using ten computers for the majority of the day, then that is the number of computers that are actually needed. However, if five of those people are only using the computers for half of the day and the other five are using them for even less, then the option to share five computers among the ten tech people is a viable one. Ten printers are another issue for reducing equipment usage. Even if all ten employees need to print something at roughly the same time, they can take turns. Printing something is rarely something that hinges on being done immediately. One or two printers could be connected to the network. All printing should be seriously considered before that button is pressed. Paper should be recycled paper, and in many cases documents can be printed on both sides of a page. All office supplies should be used in similar ways, with strong consideration about whether or not they are necessary.

What can a green tech village accomplish?

First, the primary goal of the village could be a breakthrough in nearly any industry. A tech person may discover a new approach that can be beneficial in many ways. In addition, on the road to finding this approach, the green tech village can lead the way to greener ways of doing business and living life for everybody.

Why should anybody worry about a green tech village?

Technology is one of the major industries of the world. Every day, tech people are working on better fuels and energy sources, new ways to discover or treat diseases and illnesses. Without technology, many of the things for which we take for granted right now would never have been invented, tried out and improved. Some of those improvements have been in the field of green energy.

Who is the competition?

There are other green tech villages in other areas, all of them working toward the same or similar goals. Healthy competition in this arena is good because the more improvements that can be made in the green world, the better off we will be.
