Greenhouse - Co Op BusinessAre you looking for a career path that you have complete control over every part of the business? No more boss to worry about. Starting a greenhouse business may be something to consider. You get what you put in. The career outlook for a greenhouse is favorable. Greenhouse workers make $8 to $12/hour, the owner could make more. There is actually quite a bit that goes into growing. It can be overwhelming at first. If you have the will and know how, it can be lucrative. You do not need to know anything about growing to consider running a greenhouse. You will however need to be willing to read and learn. Before starting any business, it is best to learn about it. Consider starting with this great learning guide put out by Kansas State University.(print it out) To make you life a little less confusing as well, it may be necessary to pick up a couple of books. (Consider them part of the start up cost; it will save you long term) This one is a great place to start! The part to remember about greenhouses is that it is a REAL business. You can make a living. You need to be organized along the way. At the beginning you will need to consider, where to build, what to grow, how the building works, and who do I sell the product to. Another thing to consider is local ordinances, these may hinder where you can build. While you are considering what to sell, make sure to look into joining a co-op. Co-ops allow the small farmer, to join with others to sell bulk to their local grocery, flower shop, or any larger store to sell goods. These groups will be invaluable to your business. Every area should have a wide array of co-ops. Find the one that you like and give them a call, they are in the same boat as you, and will work with you. A greenhouse business could not only be a great business, it may be an even greater family business. As money tightens up, it may save you some money on groceries. Involving the whole family will teach great business lessons. The greatest thing is that you are contributing a great "green" product to your neighbors.
