How to Begin a Greenhouse?
Simply put, a greenhouse is a building, usually composed of glass, where many plants are grown. Therefore, it can also be called a glasshouse. You've probably seen pictures and you might have even passed by one at some point, but you might not have sat down and thought about how to build your own greenhouse. It's not too difficult, but like with all new projects, it does take some time and energy.
A greenhouse is one of the very efficient and effective ways to grow plants because it's not easy for the heat that is radiated from the sun to escape. The roof is usually made of glass, but can be made of plastic as well. The walls are made of glass and this helps keep the heat inside, where plants and soil will absorb it and grow better. By trapping heat inside and keeping the ground warm air is prevented from leaving and keeping everything inside the building at a steady temperature.
The greenhouse acts as a shield against storms and other weather disturbances that could harm the crops inside. They are useful throughout the world, as it allows you to grow crops throughout the year.
Pests have no way in either, while bees are used for pollination. As a gardener, a greenhouse can help you extend the growing season. You can grow well into winter, which would reduce your need for other sources of food.
The first step is to design the greenhouse. You must decide on the best design that will maximize heat intake without overheating while keeping out disturbances. Consider the shape, the water system, the materials that will be needed for construction, ventilation, floor matting, and of course, what plants you are planning on housing. Depending on their needs, you'll build your greenhouse accordingly. For example, for some exotic plants that you are planning on growing throughout the winter, you might need an extra heating system, depending on where you are located in the world.
Once you also figure out the best source for water, you might want to start a greenhouse business. When this happens, you'll want to plant crops and flowers that you can use, trade, or even sell to your neighbors. Put up a sign in this case, and have visitors come to check it out. Sell what you grow and keep those happy customers coming in. Pretty soon, you'll find yourself doing some expanding and who knows what else will be growing.Greenhouse Resources
