As society grows more conscious about the environment, we must learn about how to build environmentally sustainable homes. This is very important as we need to improve the survival of our planet and the earth's ecosystem. Something basic such as the way we live has an enormous influence on quality of life on everything on earth, and something as simple as taking responsibility for type of shelter that we live in can create a positive future for the environment without sacrificing cost.

There are currently several ways that one can learn about sustainable home building. However, the extent of how much you need to learn depends on what aspect you are looking into - whether you need to learn about it as a current or future home owner, or whether you need it to enhance your career and your business such as architects, Government policy planners, and others in the construction industry.

Home owners can learn about environmentally sustainable homes through architects, sustainable building advisors, builders, and the internet. Although those in the construction industry may want to do it their own way because they are used to their old methods, insist on looking at environmentally-viable solutions or change building advisors. There are also many websites on the internet with a plethora of ideas on how to build sustainable homes from which you can gather ideas from to present to your builder.

It is an architects' and Government policy planners' responsibility to learn modern building methods as technology evolves. There are several organizations that provide certified training courses designed specifically for working professionals who are eager to learn more about and apply sustainable building concepts to their developments. In the USA and Canada, there is a Sustainable Building Advisor Program administered through several educational institutions that is approved by the American Institute of Architects. Similar training should be available in most countries through related professional bodies.

Many non-profit organizations build environmentally sustainable homes around the world as it is more cost-effective to build them for the homeless. This is a great way to learn sustainable home building hands-on while helping the disadvantaged and less fortunate. The best thing is that you do not have to go half way around the world to learn how to do it, as many local charities that focus on building homes also create sustainable homes.

These are some of the ways that one can learn about how to build environmentally sustainable homes. There are also many show homes around the world that are famed for their environmentally friendly features such as in Japan. Choosing to build a sustainable home is just one of the key ways that we can save the environment.
