Join the Future of Construction by Building LEED-Certified and Sustainable Homes

As many people's level of environmental awareness continues to increase, the opportunity to take advantage of this new "green economy" has never been easier. With the concerns brought about by global climate change, pollution, and resource depletion, it is clear that we, as a nation, need to learn how to interact with our environment differently. The day-to-day things we do are going to have to be done more consciously, with a lot more than cost and desires in mind. While this might seem like a negative turn of events, it is actually a positive one, with respect to the environment, as well as to the ailing nature of the current economy and the astronomical unemployment rate it has led to.

Now and in the future, we are going to have to take a lot more into consideration when designing and building homes. With new sets of standards such as LEED certification and sustainable building practices using renewable or reused materials, a new job market for construction workers has begun to open up.

These are the construction jobs of the future and you have your chance to take advantage of the new job market on the ground floor. President Obama estimates that up to 15 million buildings will be built during the next five years. Most of these buildings are going to have to be designed for higher energy efficiency, using sustainable or refurbished materials, and designed in an intelligent and eco-conscious manner. You can be proud that your job makes a difference to the planet and to our children's future by helping to construct buildings that are intelligently designed to be as efficient in their use of resources and energy as possible.

To obtain a green construction job, you do not necessarily need any formalized training or additional jobs skills than you would already have as a construction worker. However, as certification standards for green building design continue to improve and become more stringent, applying more advanced building techniques will likely be necessary. And now is the time to take advantage of all the assistance available by federal, state, and local governments for assistance in green job retraining.

As certification standards such as LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, become more stringent, and the need for buildings built to these high standards increases, your employability in the future job market is highly strengthened with experience and education in the green building industry. You can be ahead of the curve in the green construction industry by taking advantage of the training and certification options the U.S. Green Building Council offers. This will demonstrate your understanding of the stringent guidelines for achieving certification of building projects and make you an even greater asset to the building industry at large.

As the green collar economy is just beginning to emerge, it is an excellent opportunity to get in on employment options of the future. In the construction industry, getting certification, training, and experience in initiatives like LEED certified construction projects or other sustainable building practices, your can be proud that your job is helping to advance the future of building to help promote a healthier, safer, and cleaner environment.
