Only the Strong Survive in the Multi-Family Project Specialist Career

If you are the type of person who likes to help people, you might consider a career as a Multi-Family Project Specialist. This title is synonymous with other titles, including Multi-Family Project Coordinator and Multi-Family Housing Specialist, and probably several others. It all depends on the organization you're working for.

The main goal of the multi-family project is to provide quality housing for low-income families. A multi-family project specialist is a person who works for an organization dedicated to these projects in an overseer or management type capacity. This person must be versatile and have the ability to remember many important details pertaining to the building, renovating, and overseeing of these projects. If you are a multi-family project specialist, you might find yourself going over designs with an architect one minute, while discussing building codes with a city official the next. You will more than likely be expected to know and understand the various local, state and government funding options available and to know which agency funds what part of the project. You'll probably even have to be persuasive enough to bring various agencies together to discuss how efforts can be coordinated to bring about desired results.

In addition, these days most multi-family projects currently under construction or slated for construction in the future, are concerned about carbon reduction. Some communities may even have laws pertaining to that, and a multi-family project specialist should make that an area of concern. This would make an already demanding position even more challenging.

Needless to say, this career choice would be extremely demanding and oftentimes stressful, but rewarding as well. A successful multi-family project specialist would more than likely be naturally persuasive and outgoing and would be able to talk with people from all walks of life. Someone with a 'gift of gab' would be a natural at this career choice, but plenty of education and knowledge is also crucial. If you don't have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Community Development, or some other related field, you'd be wasting your time applying for this job.

Work experience is a must, and most people interested in this career opportunity must first start out in a lower capacity and gain knowledge of the position from the inside. It's a top-notch field though, accessible only to a few highly skilled and qualified professionals. If you're talented enough to be chosen for one of these coveted positions, consider yourself very lucky. Climbing the ladder to become a multi-family project specialist often takes years, and the competition is usually pretty stiff.

"I can’t thank you enough. I thought building a house is way harder. I already built the foundation and the walls. I used all your tips and they worked great. In about 2 months, we will probably be able to move there if we want to." - Actual Testimonial
