Recycling - Our Way to a Stronger Economy
Reduce, reuse, and create jobs could be the new catch phrase of the recycling industry. Recycling has always been known for its ability to help save the environment and reuse waste that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill, but now it seems that recycling might be one powerful tool for job creation for the whole world. As I'm sure many of you know, recycling is simply the process of turning waste into something useful or even back into the raw material used to build the waste. Many businesses have capitalized on this huge industry, which is projected to get much bigger in the coming years.
Recycling jobs should be poised to be an incredibly stable and fast growing career path due to many fundamental reasons. First, there will always be waste and with the exploding population all around the world, there is only going to be even more waste and garbage to recycle. Second, is that there are many materials that can be easily recycled that contain rare or hard to obtain metals that have been skyrocketing in price recently making recycling an attractive and very lucrative industry. All of these factors come together into making recycling jobs not only plentiful, but also very rewarding as well.
To put the potential of job creation into perspective, currently the United States has a recycling rate of approximately 33% according to a study done by the Environmental Protection Agency. The same study went on to say that if the United States were to substantially increase it's recycling rate, that there would be the potential to create over 1.1 million jobs through direct, but also indirect means as well. This would equate to an additional 236 Billion dollars in revenue for American recycling companies. It's even been theorized that the recycling industry employs 60 times more people on a per-ton basis than the landfill industry. These numbers are almost too big to ignore. If the recycling rate was increased especially in the United States, the resulting job creation could easily push the U.S. out of any slump or recession and at the same time be contributing to an environmentally friendly industry.
Starting a career in the recycling industry is also another amazing feat in itself. The recycling industry has jobs for people with almost any job skills and education levels. From sorters, to equipment operators, to management and supervisors, recycling companies have a rewarding position open. Finding a job in the recycling career path is almost just as easy as reading this article as well. A simple search on the internet for "recycling jobs" yield many legitimate results for websites that help people search for these jobs and don't worry about traveling too far to find one of these jobs either, remember that every city makes waste and that every city is not that far from some sort of waste management or recycling center.
So if you would like to help jump start the economy, or maybe help put 1.1 million people back to work, or maybe just help the environment, maybe you will think twice before throwing away that plastic bottle or glass jar.
