Simple Green Ways You Can Cut Costs In Your Business

By Cindy Sha from Steam Mop Reviews.

When it comes to business, it's almost always about the money. The very purpose of most businesses is to provide a product or service, reduce overheads as much as possible and produce a good profit.

Companies have streamlined their business, production and workflow processes to get the maximum out of their employees and of course, the available time in a work day. The end goal of these actions is to increase profit margins and thus increase their stakeholder happiness levels.

However, is it possible to be profit driven and be a green conscious business entity? This is what is referred to as killing two birds with one stone. If you can find ways in which you can reduce the overheads of your company and do so in a green and environmentally friendly manner, the positive results are numerous.

These positive effects include:

* Increase in company recognition: Going green is the new trend these days, and if a company is green conscious, they usually get recognition from the media which boosts their visibility.

* Consumers are increasingly aware of the need to be green and as a result, a greater percentage would purchase from a company that is known to employ green friendly practices.

* By employing green practices, your company will be reducing its carbon foot and helping to reduce our negative impact on the environment.

* Increases your employee morale. Most people become motivated when they know they are affiliated with a company that cares about more than money.

* Many green practices that you employ would in fact reduce overall monthly and yearly expenditures.

Cutting Costs By Going Green

Now that I have your attention, you don't have to immediately employ the most radical green changes. It is important to take small steps before making big changes to ensure this organizational change does not have adverse effects.

Some simple changes include:

1. Change the light bulbs. Since company buildings are usually powered 24 hours a day, it is important to switch your old lights to CFL Bulbs. The costs of these bulbs are initially higher than your normal bulb; however they will pay for themselves within 500 hours. They usually last approximately 10,000 hours, use a quarter as much energy and release less heat. This will definitely save you a pretty penny in yearly electrical costs.

2. Reduce your organizations paper usage. Simply inform all employees to print on both sides of each copy paper. This will instantly halve the money you spend on purchasing copy paper while saving the trees.

3. Start a Work Recycle program. Most of us are familiar with doing this at home; however it can have an even greater impact if it is implemented in the workplace. Simply place recycle bins in strategic locations in the office, label them appropriately and inform your employees.

4. Allow customers to be able to receive communication via email. You can also clean your mailing list in conjunction with this. By doing these two actions you will reduce the number of undeliverable packages and reduce revenue spent on printing and mailing costs.

5. Reduce business travel. It is common for many businesses to have meetings in multiple countries, states or towns which translate into a lot of airplane travelling, hotel costs as well as food expenses. This of course leaves a sizeable carbon footprint depending on the company and it is also very costly. One simple way to reduce this is by using web conferencing where you can hold virtual meetings over the Internet. Not only does it reduce your carbon footprint, but also reduces travel expenses and increases employee productivity.

These are just a few simple tips that you can almost immediately implement to have a greener organization while decreasing overhead costs. The end result makes everyone happier: employees, consumers, your bank account and the environment. It's definitely a win-win situation.
