Smart Grid JobsIn times when the biggest uncertainties the world faces is employment and economic instability, any prospects for job creation and economic improvement would make almost anybody jump with rejoice. Well the opportunity for our economy and the unemployed to make a turnaround could be upon us along with some great and "smart" perks along the way. The smart grid, as you probably guessed does exactly what you think it does, it takes the current electrical grid and teaches it a few new tricks. These new tricks take the form of better monitoring of energy usage and allowing the customer to essentially program a house so they could turn appliances off when electricity is most expensive during peak times. The problem with our current electric grid is that it is old and within its huge complex system hides much inefficiency and lacks much of the infrastructure necessary to incorporate all of our new electric hungry appliances, electric cars, and even alternative ways of producing energy like solar or wind. What makes the new smart grid our knight in shining armor is twofold. First the smart grid is more efficient, uses less energy, and saves everybody money. Second and probably the big reason that would interest everybody is that installing and managing a new smart grid could create a huge amount of jobs and stimulate our economy like nothing else. Hopefully that got your attention. Even heavy weight companies and organizations like IBM and the Gridwise Alliance have agreed that a multi-billion dollar investment into the creation of a smart grid network between the government and utility companies could create as many as 280,000 jobs and trust me, that number isn't a typo. These jobs would be for a huge host of different tasks as well from making the smart grid meters, installation, monitoring, design, research, and so many other jobs that just about anybody can find something that they are equipped to do and actually enjoy doing. What's more exciting is that a person wanting to get into the robust and rewarding career field of smart grid and green energy doesn't have to look far at all. Besides the plethora of online resources and websites dedicated to finding jobs within the green energy sector, local utilities, electricians, engineering firms and many government agencies will need people to meet the potentially exploding market that could become of the smart grid industry. So remember that even though a 9.4% unemployment rate and an economy that seems to be stuck in the deepest rut ever probably doesn't make you or anybody else feel too confident, but relief could be right under our noses in the form of a safer, smarter, and more efficient electric grid.
