The Internet As A Green ResourceThis article highlights the internet and its powerful role in the success and growth of green businesses. The internet and information technology has changed the way businesses operate and has even shaped many developing industries. Indeed, we have to admit that 'green fever' has spread at a rapid rate with the use of this technology. The internet has introduced many new marketing techniques and has made the distribution of information much easier on both a local and global scale. Globalization is a phenomenon of the information age where there are simply no boundaries when it comes to dissemination and gathering of information. This globalization has led to massive awareness which is one of tools that assists in the development and success of green businesses everywhere. Green InternetFor green businesses, the internet has made it easier to increase awareness on the importance of change and protection of our natural resources. Since green related information can be easily accessed via numerous websites and social media networks, our global population has become more sensitized to the importance of preserving our environment. The internet has also given a front seat view as well as a medium for the observance and discussion of mass devastation experienced in countries all over the world. These are caused by the extreme change in weather and the natural disasters that follow which are the direct effects of global warming. More importantly, it has also given green business entrepreneurs an avenue to market their services and products on a global scale while remaining cost effective. Today, because there is so much available information on the internet from research on green living, this has led to the ingenious invention of green products and services. As a result, an entire new job market and employment sector has opened up which provides another avenue for us to create sustainable lifestyles while adding value to the world. Carbon Footprint vs. Digital FootprintThe internet has also decreased our carbon footprint by increasing the digital footprint of businesses. Even though the benefits of digital footprints outweigh the disadvantages of our carbon footprint, we are still using electricity to power the internet. This electricity is currently still mostly generated by traditional sources of energy such as coal and natural gas which unfortunately also creates a large carbon footprint. However, using the internet still decreases the amount of resources we use up such as paper and it decreases our carbon emissions by decreasing the need for business travel. Reducing a company's traveling expenses by use of video conferencing services will decrease our carbon emissions significantly. This occurs because less business travel means fewer flights which results in fewer planes in use and much lower overall emissions per year. Not only do we have information in an easy to access digital format regardless of your office location but also one person can make critical business decisions from any location at any time. It is amazing how powerful this tool truly is and how it is shaping the structure of business organizations to become more flexible and efficient. The Internet And DataBy backing up data digitally and communicating through email, instant messaging and social media networks we have definitely decreased the cost of business operations but have more importantly, decreased the impact on our environment. Our use of these services has not only enhanced communication but it has also helped us to reduce our consumption of natural resources such as paper consumption which has greatly decreased our business's carbon footprint. The Internet & Improvements In MarketingThe Internet has allowed us to make huge strides in marketing and consumer sales by the creation of ecommerce. This has shifted a company's access from the local market into accessing a global market. Through the use of social media and websites, green companies have been even more successful in marketing and providing products and services to customers worldwide. Through the use of social media, green companies and just about any other company can directly interact with their customers and build business relationships without negatively impacting the environment. Organizations no longer need to host huge marketing promotions which are costly and consume a lot of resources as it is much easier and more effective to launch digital campaigns. Additionally, Green companies can also use the internet to capture and gather information on consumer needs and marketing trends. This is definitely a critical success factor to ensuring the success of your business. By being able to predict changes in the market or observe changes in technology and trends, you can find and gather profitable information for your company. ConclusionIt is quite easy to conclude that the internet has endless possibilities and greatly impacts everyday life. Personally, I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the green revolution, especially through use of the internet. Green Business Articles
