Geology is a science about Earth crust, the materials it's made of and the processes that influence it. Geology is a complex study, including environmental issues, knowledge of soils, rocks and minerals developing in the historical process and their modern characteristics. As a complex science, being good geologist requires knowledge of geophysics and chemistry, hydrogeology and engineering, mathematics and geography. Certainly, each university or college has its own curricular, containing different courses. But the ones, named before are mostly often a part of geologist's studying. Besides, there may be other courses included, like topography. Topography is a branch of geography, studying topographic maps, or basis surface charts, including knowledge of how to create these maps, not only of how to read them. All natural sciences are complex ones and being a specialist in one of them requires basic knowledge of others. Studying of chemistry and physics provides knowledge and skills of testing minerals and detecting kind of rock. All natural substances are forming under the influence of hundreds of factors, ranging from parent material to climate. Hence the most part of the minerals contain different components and there are only a few solid rocks. Geologists use special testing techniques to detect the name and origin of the rocks. One of the most important tasks of geology is to determine the sequence of geological events, and therefore field investigations are held with taking samples and creating maps (geological, hydro geological and topographical). As the name of the rocks is determined by their origin, their parent material and living organisms, having created the rock, geologists can easily recover historical events that had happened to our planet thousands of years ago. Even today geological events and their exact sequence aren't precisely ascertained. Meanwhile this information could have crucial meaning in understanding global natural processes we're watching now. As we know, global temperature was different in different historical epochs. Recovering of historical events could be the clue we're trying to find now, trying to solve problems with global warming and the climate becoming more and more instable. Profession of geologist includes different duties, both fun and serious, but always important. Field investigations can be held in different places, in mountains or in the fields, what means having interesting expeditions with your friends. Following samples testing in the lab can be exciting work as well, because it can give enough scientific facts to create a computer model of our Earth crust and Earth itself in different geological epochs.
