What Lives Under the Sea; Questions of a Marine Biologist

Marine Biologists do a variety of jobs but the one thing they all have in common is that they deal with marine organisms. Many biologists now deal with the loss off rather than the existence of. A Marine Biologist studies the interaction of marine life in certain areas of the ocean, looks for ways to protect life forms, observes and manages marine organisms. Be they animal or plant life tiny microorganisms or dolphins. You can work in the field dealing with marine wild life preservation. Not all Marine Biologists work near the ocean.

Some work in labs analyzing research or even teaching not only students but also the public on how to care for our marine life. Also studying DNA and trying to find answers to what can be done to save the marine organism population as well as analyzing the different behaviors of different forms of life in the ocean. They can also work in aquariums to keep the marine life healthy and reproducing in a controlled environment. The can care for injured fish and find places for them to relocate once they are well. The field of marine biology has grown as the bodies of water on our planet have changed. There have been so many disruptions in the lives of marine life. Global warming has had a drastic effect. There are many organisms that live in our waters and most have been severely affected by the changes on our earth.

So what lives under our waters…what does a marine biologist study? Although our aquatic creatures have been victims of global warming the ocean actually have it's own coping mechanisms. The Gaia Hypothesis says that the earth is a living organism and because of humans there are bacteria living in our oceans and throughout our earth. This is a very controversial hypothesis as it says that the effects of our environmental problems are an act of the earth trying to protect itself and killing off the bacteria, which includes humans.

Marine Biologists study different organisms in the ocean that are affected by the changes in our waters and its temperature. Coral are marine organisms that live in shallow water. They need sunlight to exist so polluted water kills them off. Wollusks, which include such animals as snails, slugs, squid and octopuses, are in jeopardy because they rely on coral. Algae are made up of many organisms and are classified as living animal not plants. They also depend on sunlight. The turtle population is decreasing because the sex of the offspring is dependent on the temperature of the water.

In order to work as a Marine Biologist you need a background in marine biology and science. If you have only a BA you may not make a lot of money but people with advanced degrees make much more. With an advanced degree you can conduct field studies or work as a professor. Most Marine Biologists are very passionate about their work as they help towards the fight to save our ocean, river and stream life.
