Green Careers Guide

What type of studying is needed to be a holistic healer?

There are many ways in which you can become a holistic healer, but the most important starting point is to have a genuine interest in holistic practices and a keen desire to help others achieve a balance of both spiritual and physical health.

Holistic healing requires an open mind and an accepting attitude to all different kinds of healing, and the ability to embrace new ways of learning throughout your career and it will also help if you are a good listener and verbal communicator with a keen eye for details. In order to successfully combine the healing of both the body and the mind you will need to have a good basic understanding in the following areas - human anatomy and physiology, healing and energy systems, nutrition, relaxation and stress management and also natural remedies such as homeopathy, herbs and essential oils.

Courses Available for Holistic Healers

Many holistic healers begin their careers by completing a general holistic health certificate program, and these are available from both traditional style colleges and institutions and also distance learning and online schools. You can find out more about the various holistic courses available by doing some research online and websites such as www.naturalhealers.com provide a lot of useful information about which schools and institutes offer holistic healing courses. You may also want to specialize in a certain area of holistic healing that you feel yourself drawn to, and this can be a good focus point from which to expand your learning. There are also many holistic schools which specialize in specific well established holistic healing systems such as homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda and the length of study and the costs of the courses will vary depending on the individual school, and also to what level want to take your studying.

Holistic Health Practitioner Certification and Licensing

You will need the relevant certification and licensing to practice certain types of holistic medicine, and it is important that you research this for the area you intend to practice in, to ensure you have the right qualifications in place before you begin your healing career. Certain areas of holistic healing such as aromatherapy are not regulated, but you can improve your standing with your clients and holistic colleagues and also expand your understanding of healing medicine by completing a general holistic training program such the Holistic Health Practitioner board certification available from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

Additional Skills

Once you have completed the necessary certificates or licenses that you need to practice your chosen area of holistic medicine and healing then you will also need to think about how you are going to apply this teaching successfully in your career. Many holistic healers work independently, whether they are running their own practice or working from within a spa or holistic centre, and so it is very important that as well as your healing skills you have also taken the time to learn some business skills as well, so that you can manage your time, money and clients well and be a success in your chosen field.
