When early man first started farms, he only grew food that was enough for him, his family and probably for his community as well. As time passed, farming became not only the necessity of the family but also of the community. Civilization can even be attributed to farming because people needed to wander less, giving them a chance to settle, exchange information and grow as a community. In recent times, overpopulation is becoming a big problem. And with the overpopulation problem, other problems have arisen, like an increased demand for food. If today's times were like that of the past, then mankind would have faced a global famine decades ago because our farming techniques then could just not keep up with our demands now. Thankfully, better technology has allowed us to improve our farming capabilities, successfully satisfying the food demands of society. The success of farming can be directly attributed to agricultural science. Agricultural science is a multidisciplinary field focused on the betterment and development of farming technology and techniques. A successful farm cannot get to that level of success without putting to use concepts from many disciplines like economic or social sciences. Success comes to those who are well prepared and ready to deal with all that the world has to throw at them. Nowadays, farming is not done by hill-folk in a far away place. No, agriculture is an extremely large business worth billions of dollars. Farms are no longer manned by just people and some beasts of burdens, farms are now manned and tended by only a few people and their gigantic machines. To even try to make a successful farm today, you will have to study a lot of things. Depending on what you farm, you have to first research on the proper tools, pesticides, feeds, and techniques before proceeding to learn about marketing your product. In all honesty, there are a lot to be learned about farming and agriculture. It is a good thing that getting the training for all that you need to learn can be gotten in many ways. For those lucky enough to have relatives who know a thing or two about farming, then they can learn farming the traditional way. For others, there are many ways like over the web or by attending conventions. But if you really want a formal education, there are college degrees that can be earned by studying in a university. Agricultural science is a serious business.
