The Sustainable Energy Certificate program will meet the employment needs of the growing industry of alternate energy systems. Since all energy systems begin with the conversion of a raw material into energy, or electricity, the Engineering Technology program is the parent program because of its appropriate technology base. Basic courses are from the existing Engineering Technology (ENGT) program and include Auto/CAD, DC circuits and AC power, hydraulics/pneumatics, logic systems, engineering materials, and technical math.

Three new courses will be included: Sustainable Energy Systems I and II and an internship. These courses have built in flexibility to allow for growth and change as energy systems evolve in the coming years. Sustainable Energy Systems I & II topics include: electric energy and power generation; power conversion and efficiency; hydroelectric power generation; photovoltaic power generation; passive/active solar heating concepts; tidal wave power generation; biomass products and process; geothermal energy; applications of renewable energy products; and alternative energy integration with existing technologies.
