Energy has never been more important to the state of South Carolina, the United States, and the world than it is today. Three factors have combined to drive the need for new energy solutions. These factors are:

* The substantial growth in energy demand, particularly in large developing countries like China and India,
* The dwindling supply of fossil fuels that we have depended on for the past 100 years, and
* The increased concern over green house gas emissions and pollution.

SCIES is actively pursuing solutions in three key energy sectors:

* Power Generation
* Transportation
* Energy Efficiency

Our expertise in these areas includes:

* Conducting feasibility studies and assessments of new energy technologies and commercial applications
* Developing and demonstrating promising new energy technologies
* Commercial application of new technologies via pilot projects and prototyping
