Energy Providers Coalition for Energy - Online Smart Grid Workforce Training
Through a U.S. Department of Energy Grant facilitated by the Council for Adult & Experiential Learning, EPCE collaborated with energy industry and education partners to develop and deliver new online curriculum designed to train employees on renewable energy and the smart grid. Topics covered in the coursework include:
? The function, operation and vision of the smart grid
? Electricity production from renewable energy sources
? The impact of the decentralization of power generation
? Communication, automation, and control through the use of technology such as smart meters, AMR/AMI, distribution automation, among others
? Safety precautions, hazard recognition, and troubleshooting techniques
? Interactive aspects of the smart grid, along with the impact the smart grid will have on the energy industry and consumers
? Cyber security and its impact on the grid and operators
The education provider who administers these courses is Bismark State College's National Energy Center of Excellence, but these courses are online and accessible to anyone in the world, at any time.
The courses, with approximately 10-12 hours of content, are self-paced and completed entirely online without an instructor. In the course, each unit contains self check exams and/or quizzes so that each student may assess their own progress and identify topics on which to focus. The student receives feedback for the questions answered incorrectly on the exams within the course.
