The Energy systems program is designed to create student awareness and to learn alternative methods to fashion and construct renewable energy systems. Students will learn about photovoltaics, wind turbines, and passive solar devices and their installations. Students will learn how to wire a complete house, and the basic concepts in plumbing, welding, carpentry, and general construction for home building. Blueprint reading, code requirements, and job safety will also be covered. Electrical theory and lab work will be monitored and inspected by a licensed electrical inspector. Upon completion of this program, students may pursue their education in alternative (renewable) energy at a higher learning institution or seek employment as renewable energy technicians or electrical apprentices. This program has been selected and awarded a grant from the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) to enhance renewable energy applications.
