All students must complete the Chinese Acupuncture Studies core curriculum (CAS). Students gain a foundation in both Western and Eastern approaches to medicine, enabling them to communicate effectively with Western medical providers. Western biomedicine courses include basic sciences, anatomy, research, and nutrition, as well as Western pathophysiology and pharmacology. The course of study for the Eastern approach includes the history, theory and applications of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
NESA is one of the only institutions in the United States where students can study Japanese Acupuncture Styles - a style distiguished by the diagnosis of the pulse and abdomen. The JAS track is led by faculty members who have studied with world-renowned teachers and practitioners from both the U.S. and Japan.
The Chinese Herbal Medicine Track is an academically rigorous course of study providing students with extensive training in the use of Chinese herbal medicine. After studying internal medicine, Chinese pharmacopoeia formulas and strategies, and performing a clinical internship, students are prepared to effectively utilize Chinese herbal medicine in clinical practice.
The academically challenging Dual Track combines extensive education in the use of Chinese Herbal Medicine with comprehensive training in both Japanese and Chinese Styles of acupuncture, resulting in practitioners capable of providing a multitude of treatment options to their patients.
