The renewable energy field is a fast growing industry. Eastern Colorado is host to one of the fastest growing fields of renewable energy – wind energy. The Wind Energy Technician program is designed to prepare students for entry level positions in the wind industry. The program will cover the basic knowledge areas of electricity, electronics, fluid power, and mechanics, and then go into more specific control systems of large wind turbine generator technology. There is a strong emphasis on safety throughout the program, just as there is in the field.
NJC's Wind Tech Program offers a strong foundation in the electro-mechanical skills necessary to successfully enter this fast growing, exciting field. Students will have an opportunity to climb a wind turbine early in the program to confirm whether this physically demanding career is for them or not. Students will be required to participate in a program internship over the summer, with on-the-job training at an operational wind farm. Graduates of the Wind Energy Technician Program will be prepared to enter the wind industry in employment with wind farm developers and owners, wind turbine manufacturers and warranty service, or various specialty support industries.
