Environmental Studies/Science examine:
• natural processes in our environment
• the dependence of human society on nature, and
• our impact on nature through culture and technology.
What's the difference?
Environmental Science emphasizes a natural science curriculum, while Environmental Studies integrates natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities.
Without informed and caring citizens, the deterioration of our natural environment will continue. In addition, society has great demand for Environmental Science graduates, as employment in the environmental sector is growing faster than overall employment.
The Augustana program includes an outdoor or experiential education component (e.g. from biology, geography, or physical education-outdoor education) giving graduates a connection to the physical environment, the people, and organisms impacted by our society.
