The BSc Environmental Science Program emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding environmental issues facing society. It is a Collaborative Program administered jointly by the Faculties of Science and Social Sciences.
There are three main principles of the BSc Environmental Science Program:
• Master of one: Choose one of six areas of concentration where you gain depth in a single traditional discipline. These concentrations are Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Physics and Statistics. This depth allows students to obtain professional accreditation. See Course Requirements for each one.
• Interdisciplinary experience: All students also take some courses from the other disciplines, including ecosystem courses.
• Practical, hands-on experience: There are several Environmental Science (ENSC) courses that emphasize collecting and analyzing data pertaining to environmental issues of current interest. Our capstone course involves an 8-month major research project (see Student Research).
Graduates of our program get positions in their field quickly, many in the environmental consulting industry but also in graduate school and elsewhere.
