West Virginia University's CAFEE is an internationally recognized research program in the area of vehicles, engines, emissions and alternative fuels. The objective of our research is to improve the operation of engines and vehicles thereby contributing to two national goals, namely: (1) to improve the environment by reducing the exhaust emissions from engines and vehicles, and (2) to increase the energy security of the Nation by reducing the consumption of petroleum-based fuels and dependence on imported oil. These goals are part of the national vision embodied in the United States Energy Policy Act and are especially relevant to international concerns over global climate change.
