Our graduate programs in Environmental Studies offer you unparalleled opportunities to combine your interests in a wide range of environmental and social justice issues – allowing you to create the educational path you’ve always dreamed of exploring. In our Master in Environmental Studies (MES) program, you will design an individual plan of study to help you achieve your own unique educational goals. In our PhD program, the only one of its kind in Canada, you will engage with a diverse array of environmental concerns and approaches while enjoying the flexibility to pursue your intellectual passions.
Environmental Studies graduate students are currently conducting research in areas such as: social policy, environmental cultural studies, food issues, environmental planning and design, community arts, environmental education, indigenous knowledge, urban politics, waste management, globalization, gender and environment, climate change and development studies.
MES Planning Program
Follow MES course requirements that grant you professional certification through the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
Joint MES/LLB
Focus your studies on law and the environment through this program, the only one of its kind in Canada, offered jointly through the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Osgoode Hall Law School.
Diploma in Business and the Environment
This joint diploma, offered through the Faculty of Environmental Studies and the Schulich School of Business, allows you to focus your studies on sustainable business practices while working on your MES or MBA.
Diploma in Environmental/Sustainability Education
This diploma is offered jointly by the graduate programs in Education and Environmental Studies. It is designed to provide opportunities for educators in schools, community organizations, cultural institutions and advocacy groups to develop expertise and to participate in research, theory and practice in the field of environmental and sustainability education.
